Hasnat Abdullah, the leader of the student movement fighting against inequality, has made a shocking claim about the future of justice in Bangladesh.
He suggested that soon, all the murderers will be walking free, while those fighting for revolution will be the ones locked up in jail.
The comment was made by Hasnat in a post on his verified Facebook account on Monday afternoon.
He criticized the media for being dominated by supporters of the Awami League for over 15 years, and how they have not been removed. In the post, Hasnat referred to an incident involving Bulbul, the president of the Liberation War Stage. He said,
"The president of the Liberation War Stage, Bulbul, while being on the run, sends a statement supporting the fascist murderer Hasina to a newspaper, and the Daily Kaler Kantho publishes it! Do you understand what`s going on here?"
Hasnat didn’t stop there. He also shared his concerns about the control Awami supporters have over the country’s media, saying,
"For more than 15 years, Awami supporters have had control over the media in the country. They have not been removed. Soon, I will see the murderers out of jail, and the revolutionaries inside. Shafik Bhai, I hope your civility doesn’t become a noose around your neck."
In a separate post from 21 hours earlier, Hasnat Abdullah continued his critique of the current political situation, focusing on the media’s role. He wrote,
"The current bureaucrats and the media are collaborating to legitimize Awami crimes. The bureaucrats who have helped create the path for Awami fascism for over 15 years, and the media that has labeled the people fighting for justice as terrorists — today, they are working hard to rehabilitate Awami actions."
He concluded with a strong message,
"When we spoke against these bureaucrats and media, you started asking, `Who gave you the responsibility?` To those who believe that the same bureaucrats and media, under whose watch Awami ignorance and oppression were carried out, will now establish justice, I say — remove the fascist dictation from your mouths. These bureaucrats and media are more than capable of silencing this revolution."
Hasnat’s comments are bound to stir further debate on the current state of politics, media, and justice in the country.
